High/Low beam inop when left turn signal on...... 200 1986

This morning while driving to work in the dark, I was making a left hand turn and then went to turn on my high beams and found they wouldn't come on. I made my turn and tried the highs again and the worked. Then while on my straight away, I turned the right TS on and the high beams and they worked fine. Again the left TS wouldn't alow the HB to come on. Could this be a turnsignal stalk issue? If it is, can I use one without the cruise control switch on it since my cruise was removed years ago?
Thanks for looking.
