Hello,

I saw the rebuilt engine ad on ebay.

I know John and he can build a decent engine.

He is asking the same price that I charge my customers for a thorough rebuilt engine.

Although I like to use steel gears instead of fiber and I still use 1 piece cast lifters so you can still use the stock pushrods, unless I am building a performance motor.

I am not sure if everyone is using as many new "quality" parts and are having all of the same machining operations performed, so a proper comparison must take this into condsideration.

Plus, what is the value of an experienced mechanic who can say he/she specializes in your motor?

I feel that if you buy all the same parts that are listed in the ebay engine ad and add the cost for all the machining that you will approach $2400.00 for parts, machining and balancing labor.

BTW, I charge 8 hours to build a motor and that costs $576.00 and I spend way more than 8 hours cleaning, preparing, measuring, clearancing, painting, wire wheeling fasteners and assembling a motor.
