Fuel pressure regulator 700 1987

Hi folks,

I'm going to replace the fuel pressure regulator on my 740, after pulling the vacuum hose today and smelling fresh gas. I've been hunting down a low power/poor mpg/straining-engine-sound problem for a while. The FPR is original to the car, I think, since it has the same matte patina as the intake manifold.

My idle is silky-smooth at 900rpm (just the occasional 'blip' that you BB-ers have suggested is inherent to the B230 engine), and in gear will idle closer to 700. I have no pressure gauge to use on the fuel rail, unfortunately.

Before the part arrives (Bosch from eEuroparts), I would like to understand what I am actually getting into. Will I be removing the FPR from a pressurized fuel line? Please advise me so that I don't get gas all over my engine. Thanks!

Ari
