How can I still tow with my 960 wagon? 900 1995

I'm almost convinced I have to buy an SUV, but want to ask the advice of the Brickboard experts about my situation first. I have been towing a 1,600-pound pop-up camper with my '95 960 (187,000 miles) for six years. Each year it seems like the weight on the tongue pushes the rearend of the car down further. It's now to the point where I wonder if it's safe to continue doing this. I had a genuine Volvo hitch installed, and the car has no problems pulling the trailer around, even at highway speeds. It's not the best rear-view situation, but I have extended side mirrors so I can see back there in most situations.

The question is, can I do anything to beef up the rear suspension to make it firmer for towing? If there is a solution, is it too expensive to justify on a 15-year-old car? Or am I better off giving up and getting an SUV, something I never envisioned myself doing, but is seeming more and more like the sensible thing to do. No matter what I do, the 960 will continue to be my daily driver. I love the ride, even after so many years.

Any advice will be appreciated. Jim
