Update 200

I ordered OEM mounts from Tasca and await their arrival. In the mean time, I decided to apply a band-aid fix by swapping on an old - but good - motor mount from the 245 I scrapped last year.

I used the jack-from-below method to raise the engine (and screwed up by using a too-short trolley jack, but that's not important) after removing the nuts from the mount. I assumed that since the motor was still attached at the driver's side mount, the engine would rotate in that direction as I lifed. It did not.

The engine would have rotated in that manner if, indeed, it had been attached at the driver's side. It was not. The driver's side mount was also destroyed (metal plate had pulled away from the rubber) and so I have been driving with an engine merely resting on the mounts, taking any opportunity to bounce up and cause problems.

One of these problems is that my driveshaft has been contacting the floor-pan at a U-joint. Only when I hit a bump, or hit that sweet-spot at 83 mph which sets the car shaking, but still annoying.

Also, my new over-axle exhaust has been rattling against the plate which, in event of an accident, would contact the rear caliper and distribute force. I used a hammer and drift to fold the edge of the thing over a bit for extra clearance. Of course, I didn't realize my engine was flopping around at the time. There is still precious little clearence, but perhaps without my engine flopping around, the exhaust will not touch the side.

*Sigh* I spent a few hours today putting old motor mounts on my car so I could drive to school in the morning, while I wait a few days for brand new motor mounts. And I may have performed surgery on the car for no reason. I just can't win lately. Muffler rots off, exhaust won't seal, engine mounts blow up, flat tire, AC belt squealing. . .

Some days, it's almost enough to make you want a newer car . . . almost.
