You can plan your longest driving days around the portions of the trip where you cross Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and then on the way back, Eastern Montana and The Dakota's. Unless you want to stop and see the "Worlds Largest Ball of Twine", these isn't much else to do besides try and stay awake!
