M46 and M47 questions 200

Hello,

I have a few questions about the M46 and M47 transmissions. What is the difference between the M47 Mark I and the Mark II?

How does the M46's overdrive button work, could you drive it in 3rd gear with the overdrive on? And if so, is this bad for it? What about 1st and 2nd, if you can?

I've read that the M46 is a nicer transmission. Is it worth it to swap out an M47(II) for an M46 in an '89 240? Would you have to change the drive shaft?

Thanks!
