940 Rim Necropsy 900 1994

Hi All
This a rim that would no longer hold a bead. I used a flat head screwdriver to chisel up the flaked piece you see. Aside from the aesthetic interest, can anyone recomend a quick effective method of removing this schtuff? Or is it too thick too mess with? Is there a minimum thickness for a rim? I just bought 2 brand new OEM rims from Tasca for 50$ apiece(Very nice BTW) but would like to salvage these for winter. PS the whitish stuff all around is that canned fix a flat crap.
Thanks
Matt
