M41 oil new think 1800 1970

My 1800 sat for nearly 20 years before we resurrected it. It runs well and the transmission seems sound. I have yet to have the car up past about 35 mph. There is no noise, no grinding. The gearbox feels like it has mud in it though. Very gummy, though all gears engage properly. I have yet to try the OD. Before I put any substantial miles on the gearbox I want to service it. What's the current preference for lube in this gearbox/OD? Lot of conflicting stuff on the board, but most of it is older too. How about cleaning/flushing?

Thanks,
DS
