Resetting the engine manager 200 1992

ok so this time i took the car out and the idle was unbelievably rough, was on the border of sputtering out when i floored the gas and got it to move (definitely less power, though once it got going it was ok).

i parked and reset the ECU, turned the car on, no issues, smooth idle. i drove it about 20 miles (did not go over 45) and no CEL. checked the codes after to see if any came up that wouldn't light it--nothing, 1-1-1.

so now i'm stumped. this is clearly an intermittent problem. if the issue only comes after sustained highway driving (which usually kills the car within 2-3 trips) can we still be sure it's the 561 ECU? can ECU issues be intermittent? someone help me out here, because with nothing to work with i'm probably going to call the mechanic. again...
