burnt out bulb for automatic shifter 900 1993

Hi everybody,

A supposedly simple job is more complicated than I thought. I'm trying to replace the shifter light bulb on my wife's 1993 940 automatic. I got down to the rubber/plastic sheet (P,R,N,D,2,1) that surrounds the shifter, but I cannot get it off. I can snap the shift plate out of position and slide it down, but it won't come off with gentle pulling. Didn't want to force the issue and break anything. So, I thought I would ask here. Anybody ever remove that shift plate before? Thanks.
