I had problems with the A/C compressor clicking on and off, more rapidly than usual. Caused a brief hesitation (hiccup) caused by the compressor coming on and off under load. This problem was compounded and confused by a bad CPS, changed out last summer (see first thread). A trip last fall to my neighborhood mechanic proved he did not know bricks (see second and third threads). Did some online research and prodding, ruled out some easy fixes, determined this was beyond my abilities and took it to a real mechanic. What he found was a clogged orifice. That was replaced and also the condenser (suspected source of crud – if inside looked anywhere near as bad as the outside). The system was flushed and recharged and voila – it works!

Thanks to all again for info/suggestions. I did not buy the gauges as I have enough car projects on my plate already.
