cooling fan & A/C compressor 900 2005

Went to do an oil change today so fired the car up to warm up the oil and left it sitting in the garage rather than driving away like usual. When I got out of the car I noticed that the cooling fan was running even though the car was cold. I popped the hood and noticed that the A/C compressor was also cutting in and out. Does anyone know what causes them both to run when they shouldn't be. It does not seem like a frozen relay or shorted wire as they don't run continuously.
