Need a Step-by-Step for Separating Air Preheat Shutter Valve 200 1992

Trying to replace the air box thermostat. Bently says to "Remove the air cleaner, then separate the shutter valve assembly from the air cleaner housing." Easy enough to remove the air filter, and can see all the pertinent parts per Bentley's Figure 3, but cannot make sense of how to actually get the thermostat out/replace it? Thanks for any help.
