Flakey Speedometer- where are the dash grounds? 700

Good day,

I have an intermittent Speedometer on my 1985 740 w/m46 (lefthand drive). I have the sense that it is a ground problem in/to the dash/instrument cluster.

Where are grounds for the cluster? R/H "A" pillar at ECU? Are there others (L/H "A" pillar)? Fuse panel?

I figure the sending unit per se can't be intermittent (either it works or it doesn't) just the connection maybe.

Is the voltage so low that a slightly oxidized connector (like in the trunk) could be the cause?

TIA

jimB
