Instrument cluster bulbs--hard find 200 1980

In my '80 244 diesel, I had only one working inst. cluster light. When I had the cluster out, I found 3 bulbs wired in series clipped over the resulting hole. I guess these 29 year old bulbs are pretty feeble, because I killed the last one by basically touching it.

My problem now is that I can't find any replacements that look anything like what is there now. I checked 3 different auto parts stores, 2 Volvo shops, and ipd to no avail.

It is a gold bulb socket with a spade connector on one end (to car wiring) and the bulb at the other, which is removable. It is a Phillips 12829 2 watt bulb. I bought some LEDs, but I'm afraid they will be too bright, and the dimmer won't work with them.

Surely someone else has run into this problem.

I need to see!

Charlie
