Cold Start Problem - 1989 Volvo 240 Wagon - LH 2.4 200 1989

Hi,

Looking for some insight from the Volvo experts. We are experiencing a wierd problem with our Volvo wagon. When the temperatures are cold outside, the Volvo is very difficult to start. It is starts, it literally dies and stumbles. When it warms up, it runs like a charm. If we plug our block heater in, there is absolutely no problems. Accordingly, it appears that the problem has something to do with having a cold engine. We had replaced our coolant temp switch about 5 years ago so we presume that it is doing its job. Our air mass meter is fairly new and other than this problem, everything runs fine. No vacuum leaks appear to be present. Could this problem be caused by a faulty cold start valve? The on-board diagnostic is not showing any codes presently. There is no check engine light. Both fuel pumps were placed about 2 years ago. We also checked the fuel injectors and replaced the seals.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

David
