fuel injector caps - go with out them? 900

1994 940 non-turbo B230 170,000 miles

I just took off my fuel rail yesterday to reseal the injectors, there was definitely a lot of build up around the tips, I'm assuming thats normal. None of the injectors had the little plastic caps though - is that okay?

I wiped everything down and popped on two new o-rings with out putting the new caps from the set on. Once I put everything back together everything seemed to run well, is it okay to go without the caps?

In the beginning I did try to put one on, but it seemed too tight to fit properly - so I just decided to keep them all off.

And I do want to thank whoever posted the tip about pulling the fuel pump fuse to release the fuel pressure, it worked perfect with minimal gas spillage.
