1993 940 sedan, 166k. I was hit from behind (a most mild bump) yesterday while waiting for traffic to clear to make a right hand turn at a yield sign. The driver was looking left instead of looking at my car. The other car was a 2003 Acura 32TL with the standard plastic and foam bumpers. Little visble damage on the Acura. Black marks on the white bumper with most likely pushed in foam.
About the car: I bought this in 2004, for 2k with 119k. Lots and lots of little thing wrong but all fixed with new bushings and shocks. The good, it is a most trustworthy car, my go to car, the car to put miles on and it rides like new. The bad, needs a new coat of silver paint. The ugly, a fair amount of small and medium dents, hence the low purchase price. BTW, its official name is "The Junker".
Impact was a in the corner of drivers side rear bumper and body. The bumper shows no damage. The lables on the shock do not indicate that it was pushed in. Sheet metal between the corner tail light and the bumper is dented in, about a half inch and I cannot tell how that happened unless there was a metal bracket under the Acura’s bumper. Trunk lid looks slightly misaligned because the body corner is slightly pushed forward, maybe a quarter of an inch. Trunk opens just fine. The rear door alignment looks fine.
I have an option to take it to the insurance company’s shop or have an adjuster meet me. I think I’ll have the adjuster come to the car.
Present value, who knows, 1 to 1.5k. Car still rides like new. I think is will be considered a salvage case since it would take 85 percent of the value of the car to straighten the body. The best I can do is negotiate the fixes up to the limits of the salvage cost. I plan on pocketing the settlement and adjust the trunk lid.
I have an option to take it to the insurance company’s shop or have an adjuster meet me for an un-rushed discussion. I think I’ll have the adjuster come to the car.
