I just recently picked up a 1997 960 as a new daily driver. You can see the car here:

Unfortunately, I didn't know nearly as much about the car at the time as I do now, thanks to the FAQs here, but I've still got a couple questions that I wasn't able to find answers to. I'd like to keep this car in top shape, as it's already really nice and it's my first car, period.
First off, the steering shudders/shakes at low speeds (less than 5 mph). It does this intermittently, not usually until it's been driven for a while. The previous owner believes it was the power steering pump, but I really have no clue what the cause might be. If it is the pump, is this something a novice mechanic such as myself should attempt, or should I leave it to a specialist?
Secondly, my car's driver-side power seat suffers from the "one side works, the other is stuck" issue. I've been through the FAQ article on this issue, but I'm kind of unclear what I'm looking for under there so far as the cabling goes. Again, is this something I should be attempting to fix on my own, or should I leave it to the pros?
In general, is there anything else I should be checking right now on the car in order to ensure its continued good working order?
Thanks for any help.
