adding a fill port on the ac 200

I have an 87 240 with 134a in it.I would like to add a fill port to the top hose that crosses over the engine.I believe this is the low side.I went to a place that can make hoses with the compressed fittings. He said to bring mine in and he would do the conversion. But this hose is a pain the neck to remove and he doeen't have small portable crimper. So can i add this fill port and just connect it in line with hose clamps? It is the low side so I think it would be ok pressure wise, yes?Your thoughts on this.I have seen a few cars with this conversion/adaptation.
