alternator dead as a door nail? 700 1991

Car died rather slowly while driving. diagnostic procedure revails the following: 1. plenty life left on the brush. 2. switching to a known good brush/regulator pack did not help. 3. DC voltage out of the alternator reads zero (should be ~14v). 4. AC voltage between the two brush terminals reads zero (should be 7V). My question is: Is it time for a new alternator, or is there still a chance to rebuild it with reasonabl machnical/electronical skills? Thanks all for your advice. EYYU
