940 Fuel Pump Woes 900 1993

I've got a 93, 940 with 197k on the odometer. It is currently in the shop for replacement of the 5th fuel pump in two and half months. We have replaced the sock filter the inline fuel filter, the fuel pressure regulator, vacuum tubing and the short piece of rubber return line coming off the reg. We typically purchase fuel at the same places (our other cars too...no problem there). The dealer removed the factory noise suppressors prior to reinstalling the replacement. I opened the return line, removed the fuel pressure regulator and was able to blow into the return line and force fuel out of the fuel rail (not resticted, fuel cap also checks good). Fuel pressure is "right on" when running, when its running it runs great, no starving for fuel. All replacement pumps are factory (Regina) in tank type.
If anyone has experienced this or has any ideas please drop me a line. I'm fresh out of ideas.
