Electrical issue. 200

Heya,
My 240 died yesterday. Lights on the dash started to come on and fade while driving so I know that the battery is not charging. This happened before at which time I took wires off of alternator and cleaned points and batt cables. Anyways it worked for a month and now same problem. Also at idle the speedo needle bounces as the dash lights come on. It is a good batt and fairly new alt. I'm thinking that oil dripping on the wire harness under the engine could be the culprit but it also has a random problem with the starter. Sometimes I have to use the dipstick to jump the solenoid to get it going. I am going to address the oil leak and the leak from the top of the water pump today. If anyone has any hints on the electrical issue, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
Matt
