@#%$& noisy fuel pump: how long do I have? 700

I just moonlighted for a month sourcing a new fuel filter/pump tray, rust-proofing, new filter, clamps, banjo lines ect. I finally bolt everything back up and realize that my pump is wheezing. It makes a gravely buzzing. Before getting intimately acquainted with my fuel system I thought it was my cat converter that was making the noise. But it makes the noise on ignition II. I should have replaced the pump when I took everything apart but I didn't want to take the $150 hit and was told that these pumps have the longevity of dracula. Question is: Roughly how long do I have between when a fuel pump starts wheezing until it quits altogether.
