pv544 postive ground?? 444-544

Well my on-going saga, noticed today the red battery cable was quite short and went to ground on bolt on firewall, while the black battery cable was long and went to starter. Is the pv 544 a postive ground system, negative ground? Also any special guage cable needed for this 12v battery?
It is a B20 engine also is there a place to track down what year my b20 engine came from, via serial no, etc? would like to find this out, to order parts etc.
