M46 stuck in OD, replaced O-rings, still stuck 700 1988

My 1988 740 Turbo with M46 shifts out of overdrive when the button is pushed if it has only been in OD a few minutes. But when I drive 30 miles to work, then push the button, the OD light turns off but the OD stays engaged. On cold days, after 20 seconds or so of driving after pushing the button the OD would then disengage by itself. Now it's warmer out and the OD still hasn't disengaged after driving a couple miles in 1st/2nd/3rd. I read the FAQ and concluded the solenoid needed new O-rings, had them replaced at the local independent Volvo shop. This did not solve the issue. What next? Replace the solenoid? Change the fluid? Disassemble and clean the solenoid plunger?
