Ok, I've searched the archives for the answer but I can't seem to find it... Where does the back end of the clutch return spring attach to on a 1980 242? I've checked in Chilton's, Clymer, Haynes, and Autobooks service manuals as well, and none of those show or tell where the back end of the return spring hooks to either.
I've just finished changing the clutch, transmission (M46), driveshaft and rearend(3.31 ratio) in my car, and I'm waiting on a new clutch cable to arrive. When I took the car apart, there was no clutch return spring in the car and apparently has not been there since I've owned the car for the past 5 years. The car drove fine without the clutch return spring but I figured that since Volvo originally thought that there should be one there, who am I to argue with their engineering? I obtained an assortment package of clutch return springs ($4) from the Motormite/HELP section of my local autoparts store with the intention of putting a return spring in place, but I can't figure out where to hook the back end to. Can anybody tell me where it hooks to, or post a picture? I'd like to do this the way that Volvo originally did it instead of me doing some creative engineering that isn't quite right. Thanks,
