Old heater valve into newer 240? 200 1993

There has been discussion about how the old heater valve is so much better than the new ones, used on my 91 and 93 245s. I just took out the leaking one on my 93. It looks quite different for the hose connections, and a lack of opening for the thermostat in the heater box, to be an easy substitution.
Has anyone put the old thermostat in a later 240?
