Can codes clear if left without a battery? 200 1992

Shopping a 170,000er that hasn't been driven in 2 years due to bad diodes (my guess), I put a battery and some gas in it and it started right up, but I shut it right down (old fluids). I pulled the codes and they were all 1-1-1. this doesn't seem possible as the car's a POS ...(but at the right price, it's going to be my POS.)

Thanks in advance
