Vent, Heat,Defrost control issue 200 1989

Vents would not move when buttons were pushed. I traced the vacuum and took the center console apart. I found that the 2 metal tubes on each end of the white plastic vacuum storage chamber were rusted, and the "U-shaped" one was rusted closed.
The bottom line is that you can loosen the front of the console, take out the two sides of the console, and pull those metal tubes to inspect them if the vents don't work.
I guess condensation was the culprit. I will replace with another material: Stainless steel, brass, or plastic.
