I have been getting this old derelict '88 740T back on the road. Lots of repairs etc, but it is to the point now that it starts, idles and runs very well. I have had it on the highway a few times and it holds up well. No black smoke, and with an analog boost gauge I have 8# boost.
One thing I notice however is that I can feel an erratic miss or faltering while holding a steady speed. By steady speed I mean any speed, but neither accelerating nor decelerating. I am not able to feel or hear any miss on idle, or on acceleration.
There is fresh gas in it (the old stuff was 6 years old), new fuel filters, both pumps working, new rotor and cap, new plugs and wires, rebuilt/reflowed injectors.
History of this car is that it has 280,000km on it, I bought it for 400 bucks after it had been sitting in a field for 5 years. It came with the worlds biggest mouse nest in the trunk, about 2 feet in diameter (what a stench). I can't believe it ran, the rotor was eroded beyond belief, as was the timing belt, plugs and every other maintenance item. After starting the car up and driving it 5 miles cross country to my place, I lifted it up and a ball joint fell out!! The previously white headliner is mulitcoloured, and looks like someone projectile vomitted on it. Anyway, its been fun resurrecting this old turd, and I have most things sorted out, but this miss is escaping me.
Any idea where I may find the problem? I can't even tell if this is a fuel issue or an electrical issue.
TIA
John
