Intermittent Engine Shut-down 700 1986

I have an '86 740 T, 130k original miles, I purchased from original owner a little over a year ago. Car has developed an intermmittent problem only after the engine has warmed-up, it has never happened during initial start-up or first leg of a journey. Engine will begin to miss, shake and shutter and it loses power and eventually dies. It will start right back up, or always has up until this point, and may not do it again until the next day. Today I took it out on 3 short errands to try to make the symptom re-appear with no luck...then on 4th trip out it started doing it again. I had a local mechanic who only works on Volvo's check the fuel pumps and he replaced the in tank pump which was getting pretty noisy, but I'm still having the same problem.
