intermittent highway problem on 92 240 200 1992

so i posted here before about my 240, which had a flooding issue. turned out the CEL would cause the ECU to "get stuck" with a rich mixture that would eventually foul the plugs/flood the engine.

turns out the CEL only lights if i drive on the highway for an hour plus, and all three times (i've reset the ECU each time) the car had been running for about 3 hours.

i took it to the shop and all they could think of was the mass air flow. they put a new part in and asked me to drive on the highway to see if i could duplicate whatever lit the CEL. i wasn't able to today (only 15 mins on the highway) but car was REALLY loud, esp. at about 10, 25, 40 and 50 mph.

basically around these speeds (except 25) there would be a delayed shift (definitely slower than before the new maf) and the car would get super loud. i would then have to apply a ton of pressure to the gas to keep the car accelerating. then the car would not shift until i let off the gas, at which point it would quiet down.

also weird is that the gas pedal was really resistant sometimes. i would put pressure and it would feel "locked" in place or would move very little--this would be at 25 mph going uphill.

any ideas? 1) what was the original issue? 2) is this normal for a new mass air flow/did something get put in wrong? 3) is there a connection between the old and new problems?
