Whiney torque converter? 900

My new project car with only 93,000 miles "whines" after it warms up. It sounds like a center bearing failing but the noise is motor speed dependence, not wheel speed.

The transmission runs and shifts great despite whine. All the mounts are unusually worn but within tolerances but it looks like the PO had transmission issues. There is fluid everywhere (but the torque converter is dry) the vent and the bolt to the exhaust strap are missing and the transmission is slightly over filled about 3 or 4 oz. which I assumed was for the leak but in 300 miles getting it home, no fluid loss.

My plan when I brought it was to just swap out the tranny, but what and why the failing?

Thanks (again) in advance
Charles
