1989 764 srs light checking 700

I've done a number of searches and looked at the faqs pages and haven't found exactly what I'm looking for, in regards to retrieving the fault codes and resetting. My car has the fuse box next to the drivers door and the srs test is #5. Everything I've read says that there should only be one contact but I see two? Do I just run a jumper to ground and run the procedures in the faqs? I'm a little chicken and don't want the bag to go off. I also know that I've hit the twenty year service life of the bag. I'll probably replace the steering wheel with an after market one.
thanks
