does anyone have an effective fix for a gouge in the tie rod flexible boot ? 200

Ted,

In the near term, it won't be an issue, but once it splits and road grit gets to the rack seal on that side, it'll cost a fair amount to repair/replace the rack. My advice would be similar to what I've seen used by pros in a pinch when their rubber turbo boost hoses develop a leak.... Rough up the area with sand paper and apply an inner tube rubber patch from a bicycle inner tube tire repair kit. Of course, use the supplied adhesive and make certain that everything is grease/grit/oil/water free before applying. It will probably last longer than the rest of the boot.
