1975 164 heater control valve options 140-160 1975

The heater control valve on my 164 was bypassed by the PO. Half of the ventilation was removed to put in speakers. I want to put everything back but I'm unsure of replacing the heater control valve. It appears to be the same one that was used in later 240s. IPD sells a rather expensive OEM style kit and another kit that is cheaper, but requires "modifications". What other options do I have and what "gotchas" do I need to be aware of? Currently I get all hot air all the time. Not fun with the impending summer temps.
