740 cooling anomaly

My daughter's 740 wagon was running a bit hot last night when she got home. I removed the lid of the reservoir to check coolant this morning (when it was COLD) and it was under pressure like a coke bottle. Quite a bit. Anything about that sound weird to you? Sure did to me. Is it possible the thermostat was stuck closed and kept the radiator system pressurized? Maybe that's why it was hot?
