ECU Relocation Concerns 200 1980

Hi Folks -
I've got all the fixings to install a passenger-side fresh air vent in the footwell . The location for which is currently occupied by the ECU .
Just though I'd inquire if anyone might happen to have any experience relocating ECU's to the firewall . Was there ever an alternate location from the factory ?
Also, and I'm probably just showing my ignorance here, do ECU's have temperature considerations ? Like - should I not be screwing it into it's new location OVER the firewall insulation but instead be cutting a hole out for it (which I'd rather not do) or otherwise (somehow) mount it so there's air flow behind it ?

I love my car (naturally) and always try to be extra careful when I do anything (i.e.-pussyfoot) .
If anyone might have ANY considerations for this procedure it would be greatly appreciated !
