VDO Gauges are finally installed, and one thing to watch out for 200 1986

Well I took the plunge and got a Bezel and holder out of an old turbo off Ebay a month or so back.

Bought a new Outside Temp gauge, Voltmeter, and Transmission Temp gauge from Egauges for about $150 for the sending unit and gauges. Already had a PSI oil pressure gauge. Now that is a Volvo 5 bar in the picture, more on why later in the post. Any how these are beautiful gauges, nice bright green light, very easy to see night or day. Much better light than the factory gauges (IMOH). In the Volvo VDO have two volt meters, a small clock which is filling the lower slot, and the five bar.

The reason the five bar factory gauge is back in Inga is because of the sudden death of the Vision 100 PSI Gauge. Wanting to keep the rats nest of wire down a bit, I wired the Transmission Temp and Voltmeter up with new three pin connectors from EGauges. Already had a connector wired up for the five bar so used that for the oil pressure. One little tiny problem, it seems the SAE Vision oil pressure gauge had the 12 volt and sending unit signal pins reversed. When I turned the key, smelled that odor you get when something electrical goes bad. The five bar lives until the Brown Truck shows up later next week with the replacement. The pins will be moved before installing this time.

I must have tapped the face of the Volt meter about twenty times trying to change the radio station so far. It may take a while to retrain the brain to reach down instead of out to reach the knob.

Regards,

Paul
