134A A/C charge fitting on the Accumulator. 700 1990

I have a 1990 740 N/A the was retrofitted with 134A in 1994 by a Volvo dealer. I bought a recharge kit from my auto parts store to add a little freon but the fitting on the recharge kit will not fit on the Volvo fiting. The shoulder that engages and seals on the Volvo fitting is about an inch futher down. Do I need a Volvo adapter or something?
