Hi everyone,
I just purchased a 1980 242 gt. Its a California car with only 78k miles... it was purchased from a 93 y.o. man who bought it new. The car has an unmodified B21f and stock suspension.
I had it checked out by a local independent Volvo mechanic in town, had the timing and power steering belts changed, oil changed, etc. and the shop said it was a solid car.
I've had two minor problems with the car that I was hoping to resolve with the help of this forum...
The first is a stall problem. The car starts fine and idles ok while cold, but the first, and sometimes second time, I put it in first gear and start to lift off the clutch the engine completely dies... i can floor the gas pedal and the rpms drop to 0 and it sputters out. I can start the car again no problem and usually get going no problem. The car drives fine for the rest of my trip and doesnt have the problem when i start it warm. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? what can i try?
The second problem occurred when i replaced the headlamps with some Hella lights off ipd. The old sealed beam lights were H4 halogen... it looks like two adapter dongles were put in at some point. After i put in the Hella lights (60/55watt bulbs), when the key is in the ignition and i flip the headlights on, i get a "buzzing" from under the dash for a couple seconds. It usually only happens when i first put the key in, after that i can flip the headlights on and off all i want and no buzzing. the lights work, high and low, and all the fuses are in-tact... any ideas?
