Brake light bulbs on a 1980 244 200 1980

I shouldn't have to ask but here goes.I get a brake light not working.Right side.Left side works fine as do every other light.I cant get the number off of the non working bulb really but it looks like 1158 or 1156.The other is a 1156.Great! So i try to swap them and realize the size difference.1156 wont go into the hole.Its too wide.
My question is could an 1156 come in more than one dimension?Or did PO use an 1158(if it exists)Scratching my head here.
