Looks like somebody on ebay is parting out an early 444 (says it's a '55):

BTW-I think Chris Horn (agent strangelove) was parting out a mid-50's ('57ish) 444 a little while ago.

I don't know if an M4 tranny would work, I might know of one for sale. Also, if an M4 would work, there is a write-up about using an M40 with an B16 bellhousing -> requires modifying the M40 by drilling new holes to line up with B16 bellhousing.
