First of all, I hope not to be posting too frequently. The car is going to be going on something of an expedition next couple of days.
Preparatory to towing a pretty heavy boat with the car, I installed a new auxiliary fan relay from fcp last couple of days. Auxiliary fan rotates freely when being turned by hand with the front grille removed.
But diagnostic test mode 3 does not switch on the auxiliary fan on my car. The test itself runs, now as before, but it cycles through just three things on my car: fuel injectors, IAC, and then a switch apparently on the block and that is buried down beneath the intake manifold (cold start valve? I have never seen it, but can hear something clicking down there during test mode 3). It may be relevant to this post that the air conditioner condenser fan belt is absent from my car. I do not use the air conditioning and took that belt off years ago to lighten the load on the engine.
For what it is worth, diagnostic test mode 3 on my car also does not activate the fuel pump. But I am confident that the fuel pumps are working.
My basic assumption is that the auxiliary fan may help cool the engine during towing, even if the air conditioning is not turned on and the air conditioner condenser fan belt is not on.
FAQ and queries do not seem crystal clear on this, could anyone comment? I would like the auxiliary fan working if the motor management is going to call for the fan to spin during towing. But if the auxiliary fan will never get a call if the air conditioning is not on, then maybe I should just take the auxiliary fan off to smooth the air flow through the radiators and also disconnect the new auxiliary fan relay, wrap it in cushioning and keep it in the glove compartment as a spare for the current working radius suppression relay.
Will appreciate any thoughts from the Board on this. Thank you in advance, everybody.
