M47 service - Seals & Gasket replacement 200 1991

I am replacing the seals & gaskets on an M47 5 speed, and ran into trouble getting the rear 5th gear housing off with the Bently procedure. The seal that leaks is the rear housing to gearbox seal, and have the VOlvo seal kit with all the transmission seals.
So far, trans is on the bench withbellhousing, top and rear cover removed, countershaft bolt, shim & thrust washer removed, but cannot pull the case off while pressing against the countershaft inner bearing race, per Bently manual procedure.
Anybody do this procedure, and have first hand experience?
Thanks,
Pete
