I haven't posted much about the yellow peril because it was at my grandson's house out of service for unknown reasons.
Since I won't get the 164 painted in time for the VCOA Midsommar Meet, I had AAA bring the Yellow Peril
home and have started getting it back into operation (I hope).
I charged the battery and turned on the key and did not hear the fuel pump. I checked the wiring for 12v and
it was not there. So I checked around, rolled fuses in holders, etc and got power to the pump.
I also noted that the rubber cap over the plug that plugs into the side of the pump was full of something that
looked like molasses but wasn't. Pretty stinky dried up stale gas. I tried the key again but NO sound and NO pressure!
I went to the culch heap and selected 3 pumps that were not marked "NG" and tried them all on 12v power.
I installed the quietest of the 3, taking a bath in about a pint of stinky gasoline in the process.
(Good thing I don't smoke!)
This resulted in a sprinkler system spraying gasoline on the hose to the cold start injector. So I went to buy
some more gas line, and hooked up the fuel pressure gauge to the new hose. Surprise!! Exactly 28 psi!
Then I tried the "open the throttle, listen for the clicks" test. No clicks.
I had two throttle switches that looked GREAT but for unknown reasons did not work, even after cleaning.
I found an old B30E manifold with a throttle switch on it - an early model with the cover held on by 4 screws.
I put it on the Yellow Peril and got some of the sweetest clicks I ever heard!
I checked the radiator and found it a gallon low so I filled it. Crankcase is OK.
I already spent a couple hours vacuuming under the hood and in the driver's area, and took the battery
tray to be blasted and powder coated (they quoted me $10, which seemed like a bargain to me!)
I hooked it all up and it cranked over about 10 times before the battery gave out.
I've put the charger on it and will try again tomorrow. May have to try Interstate's warranty service - It's dated 2007.
I'll post another installment tomorrow. Hope to see you at Midsommar!
