79 245, new good alternator will only put out 12 volts...perfect bench test but not installed 200 1979

if this is a double post please forgive me, I have not been on here for awhile and things seem a little different regarding posting..so the alternator will only produce 12 volts...it checks out great during the bench test,just not in the car where I need it to make the 600 mile trek back to Colorado...Kris
