Air conditioner takes a break on hot/humid days S90-V90

1997 S90 Sedan
The air conditioner generally works great, blows "very" cold air. However, several times on very hot/humid days it will cease working for approximately 10 minutes. During this time the vents operate properly but just do not blow cold air, instead blowing ambient temperature air. Then, just as sudden, the cold air returns as if nothing had happened. It continues to work fine in between these episodes.
What is happening? Assuming the refrigerant is fine (and probably is) what possibilities exist? It was checked once at a Volvo dealership after this happened and they proclaimed "all is well". Of course it did not do this in their possession. It has happened only a handful of times but temperatures in the 90s and high humidity seem to bring it on.

Cheers!
Jim
